Starwood Preferred Guest 30,000 Point Offer is Back

One of my favorite, if not my number one favorite point earning credit card is the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express. The card is the only one that earns Starpoints – probably the most valuable point currency out there today. American Express just increased the sign up offer to 30,000 points after hitting $5,000 spend in 6 months.

That spend amount may seem on the hight side but it only comes out to $834 a month which isn’t too bad.

Why I love Starpoints

Starpoints are my favorite point currency for two reasons – the flexibility in using your points and the amazing value that you can get out of your points.

Flexibility 
SPG allows you to transfer out points to most airline frequent flier mile programs, allowing you to use your points for free flights. Even better is that when you transfer 20,000 points or more you’ll get a free 5,000 point bonus!

Point Values
When used correctly it’s not uncommon to get $0.03+ in value out of each Starpoint, especially when using cash+points options to book hotel rooms. I was even able to get $0.045 cents in value out of my Starpoints on a recent booking in Europe which makes the 30,000 point sign up bonus worth potentially $1,350!

Swan & Dolphin
The Swan and Dolphin are technically Westins which means they are in the SPG program and redeemable for free nights using Starpoints! Both the Swan and Dolphin are category 4 hotels meaning that it’ll require 10,000 points or 5,000+$75 for a free night.

With nights costing anywhere from $189+ the Swan and Dolphin can be a great use a your brand new 30,000 points.
